An Area of Refuge is a location designed to hold occupants during an emergency when immediate evacuation may not possible. It is usually equipped with a steady supply of fresh outside air and other means of passive fire protection. This area is the first and most important safe place for buildings that have difficult or unsafe egress paths in the event of a fire or other emergency. Pointing the way to an area of refuge is as important as marking your egress path, and should never be taken for granted.
The 2003 International Building Code requires every area of refuge to be clearly marked. Mark the path to a safe area of refuge with Braille and Photoluminescent Signs. Post a glowing sign that points the way. Our signature glow-in-the-dark Area of Refuge signs do that and more! Available in glowing vinyl with adhesive backing, as well as sturdy, rust-proof aluminum, we have an Area of Refuge sign for every environment. These 10" by 14" signs are chemical resistant, and can last through high temperatures and other weather conditions. Bold lettering can be seen from a distance, and the special photoluminescent material will glow, even during a blackout. Don't take your signage for granted - post an Area of Refuge Sign to mark the first step toward safety.
